Starting with the month of February, one can be tantalized with the decadence of Chocolate. The annual Chocolate Festival is held every February at the waterfront, Carteret County Civic Center. Sample chocolate delicacies prepared by local Chefs and Pastry Makers alike. Your senses will be delighted!
During the month of March the Annual Emerald Isle St.Patrick's Festival takes place at the Emerald Plantation shopping center. Parking is free and so is admission. There will be arts and crafts vendors, clowns, face painters, amusement rides, and many other family oriented activities. Foods such as corned beef and cabbage, hotdogs, hamburgers, funnel cakes, and a beer garden to make the day complete. For children ages 2-3 an 4-5 there will be a Little Ms. And Mr. Leprechaun contest where each participant is judged on costume originality and stage presentation.
June offers one of the busiest months for Events. Starting on June 6th the MCAS Cherry Point Air Show will host the “Blue Angels” featuring the F/A –18 Hornet. Shows will be daily along with one “Night Show” featuring afterburners, rocket trucks, sky divers, aerial pyrotechnics all concluding with the area’s largest fireworks display. The Air Show will also highlight an AV-8B Harrier demonstration along with a flyby and demo. Simulators and various rides will be available for adults and kids. Admission and Parking are free.
June 6th-14th marks the 50th Annual BIG ROCK BLUE MARLIN TOURNAMENT held on the Morehead City waterfront. This is one of the largest sport fishing tournaments in the country and usually brings around 200 competitors that vie for big cash purses from a variety of categories. Daily, boats with up to 8 competitors head out to the Gulf Stream in hopes of catching the “Big One”. By the end of the day crowds line the waterfront where the big fish are weighed in and the winners are ranked on the scoreboard. It’s a great time to visit seafood vendors and have a cool drink while waiting for the big boats to come in with their catch.
With cooler weather comes the 22nd Annual Seafood Festival held in downtown Morehead City. An abundance of shrimp, oysters, crab and of course fish will be readily available from various street vendors. Handcrafted art, t-shirts and maritime trinkets will be available as one meanders through the waterfront. There will also be music from The Breakfast Club, Steve Holy, The Waller Family and the Craig Woolard Band. A Boat Show and Car Show will also be at the Seafood Festival this year by Chevy and various Boat dealers. The Blessing of the Fleet is held on Sunday and pays homage to the men and women who risk their lives to supply us with an abundant ocean harvest. |
